Editorial Policy

Our editorial standards

RetirementPlanCalc publishes educational retirement content for US beginners. We aim to answer the main question early, explain necessary terms, and connect each topic to a practical next step. Useful explanations matter more than padding or sensational claims.

Our preferred style is clear US English, short paragraphs, active voice, and examples whose assumptions are visible. We avoid presenting a single portfolio target, withdrawal rate, or claiming age as appropriate for every reader.

Sources and changing rules

We prefer official or primary sources for government benefits, tax-related account limits, and other rules that can affect financial decisions. Relevant sources include the IRS, Social Security Administration, Medicare, and official investor-education resources.

A dated rule should be labeled by year. When an employer’s plan document controls a feature, a general article should tell the reader to check that document. An agency page supports the specific rule discussed, not every conclusion in an article.

Examples and uncertainty

Worked examples are hypothetical unless clearly described otherwise. We do not invent personal experiences, credentials, quotations, sources, or statistics. Assumed returns and inflation are scenarios rather than forecasts.

We distinguish mathematical models from real-world outcomes. An article about a withdrawal rule should explain its limitations instead of turning it into a guarantee. Where a fact cannot be verified, it should be omitted or qualified.

Authorship and review

Content may be developed with editorial and automated assistance. Responsibility for the published material remains with the website operator. We do not claim licensed financial-professional review unless an identifiable, qualified reviewer has actually completed that review.

Before publication, content should be checked for relevant sources, arithmetic, clarity, terminology, and consistency with the site’s tools. A byline or a structured-data field should not be used to invent expertise.

Commercial influence and external links

Editorial explanations should not make unsupported product recommendations or use fear to encourage a purchase. If sponsored content, affiliate links, or other material relationships are introduced, the relationship should be disclosed clearly near the affected content.

A supporting link is intended to help readers verify a statement. It does not imply that the source organization sponsors or endorses RetirementPlanCalc.

Updates and corrections

Financial rules and benefit programs can change. Relevant content should be reviewed when a rule changes or a credible error report is received. A publication date is not proof that every fact has been rechecked on every visit.

Send concerns to contact@retirementplancalc.com. Our fact-checking policy and corrections policy explain how reports are assessed.
