Retirement planning that starts with understandable numbers
RetirementPlanCalc provides free calculators and educational articles for people planning retirement in the United States. Our purpose is to make common planning questions easier to explore: how much to save, what inflation changes, how a workplace match works, and what withdrawals might do to a portfolio.
We focus on clear inputs, readable results, and explanations you can check. You do not need to create an account or connect an investment account to use our calculators. Results appear below the inputs so the assumptions and estimates stay easy to follow on a phone or computer.
What you can use the site for
Use our tools to compare scenarios and prepare better questions for your employer, account provider, or a qualified adviser. A scenario is a set of assumptions, such as a savings amount, time period, investment return, and inflation rate. Changing one assumption can help show which decisions matter most.
Our articles explain retirement concepts for beginners. We use worked examples to illustrate arithmetic and link to official sources for government benefits, contribution rules, and other claims that depend on current rules.
What our estimates mean
A projected balance is the result of a formula, not a forecast of your actual account. Most tools assume constant investment returns and inflation. Real markets fluctuate, costs change, and individual circumstances differ.
Some tools use an illustrative withdrawal rate to set a target. That rate is not a guarantee that money will last. Our income tool models a portfolio spent down over a selected period; it does not provide lifetime income or measure the probability of success.
Our editorial approach
We aim to distinguish verified rules, examples, assumptions, and uncertainty. We do not claim that every article has been reviewed by a licensed financial professional. You should verify a rule that affects a financial decision with the relevant agency or provider.
Our editorial policy, fact-checking policy, and calculation methodology explain how we approach accuracy. The corrections policy explains how to report a concern.
